Some sources state that plans and updates have been planned for the upcoming 2025 Ford Fusion. They are said to bring back the model by incorporating new design, which is tasteful and quite good. The sedan segment may not be overly popular these days, but it doesn’t mean that the company can’t do something nice for it.
Fusion History
Since 2018, Ford has stopped making their sedan lineup, especially in North America. In 2019, they stopped making Fusion Sport trim, focusing more on Mustang, CUVs, SUVs, and also (pickup) trucks. Ford Fusion has 2 generations now, especially since Ford is working together with Mazda. Mazda designed the CD3 platform, which was used by the first Fusion. And it’s not only the platform that Mazda provided, but also the engines.
Fusion offers PHEV and hybrid powertrains, for the first and second gen. Although rumors have said that Ford would discontinue making the Fusion, the company’s engineers have been known to test the new Fusion around the track. Although it was the 2023 model, speculations have been made about the 2025 Ford Fusion. Many have predicted that the 2025 would likely be the same model as the 2023 model.
Revised Exterior
The Fusion is said to have new rear design and also grille, creating a more sophisticated design. The Fusion 2023 model may get a facelift, but rumor has it that the 2025 model would get a redesign. The new grille looks like the Edge, adding an attractive appeal to the design. If you take a look at the design, the back of the new Fusion looks similar to a hatchback or crossover, which actually makes sense. Ford, after all, is into SUVs more than their sedans.
North American Absence
As it was mentioned before, the North Americans aren’t really into sedan. They prefer SUVs, making up around 47.4% of the total sales in the US. With this consideration, it’s possible that Ford may offer their upcoming Fusion to other markets, such as the European market or Chinese market. They already have the Mondeo in the European market, so it’s possible that they offer the new Fusion for Chinese market.
Powertrain and Performance
The first gen offered various Duratec units, with their 2.3 liter unit, the 2.5 liter, the V6 3.0 liter unit, and the 3.5 liter engine. And then came the second gen with their EcoBoost variants (the 1.5 liter, 1.6 liter, and 2.0 liter), the Duratec 2.0 liter unit for the hybrid, and V6 EcoBoost with 2.7 liter capacity. It’s possible that the same powertrain and arrangement will apply, but with more plug in hybrid and also more hybrid power. It’s difficult to tell since the information is very limited and scarce.
Handle and Performance
The 2020 model comes with 2.5 liter unit as a standard, able to deliver 175 when paired with auto 6 speed transmission. The unit may not sound promising, but it has an optional turbocharged unit with 1.5 liter capacity and also 2.0 liter capacity that can generate 245 hp. The Fusion is smooth and nice, and hopefully, the future model will retains such good abilities.
Interior Cabin
Fusion is known for its generous space in the cabin. It’s able to accommodate five adults people quite comfortably, covering generous headroom and also legroom. It has rear split seating with 70/40 arrangement, helping passengers enjoy the ride. There is a possibility that Fusion’s cargo capacity may increase for the upcoming models, but we should wait and see.
