With the newer (and also more improved) design styling for 2025 Chevy Impala SS concept, auto fans and enthusiasts have been talking about Chevrolet Impala SS – and its possibility of production. There have even been some images of the iconic sedan being styled with some modern elements, although these rendering images are claimed to be only imaginary sketches instead of the real design. It should be interesting to learn more about Chevy’s plan concerning their Impala and whether it is going to make it to production.
The Condition of Sedan Segment
Nowadays, Ford doesn’t offer any sedan line in the North American market. Dodge is still making the Charger, which will roll out after the 2023 model being released, but in the form of electric ride with three door coupe. General Motors still have sedans that are managed between two main marques of Caddy and Chevy.
Malibu is somewhat still produced and manufactured, coming as front wheel driving system with turbo unit of 1.5 liter capacity paired up with CVT or the punchier turbo unit of 2.0 liter capacity paired up with auto 9 speed transmission. The CT4 would be coming with four (or even six) cylinder turbo while the CT5 would be running on V8 unit for the Blackwing edition.
However, the condition for the sedan market is different than that in the 90s. Back then, muscle rides are somewhat punchier and more classic. Instead of the Camaro basis underpinning (such as the Blackwing CT5-V), the future 2025 Chevy Impala SS concept would likely be coming with B platform. GM has updated that platform for at least 12 times, making it better and stronger than before. But the B platform ran between 1926 and 1999, designed especially for the rear wheel driving system with full size rides.
The Existence and History of Impala
The last one of Impala SS was in 1996. But then, Matouane Bembli, a designer, has tweaked the image, creating the imaginary Impala SS with a redesigned touch-up. The artist even tweaked on the pixel style taillights, which has similar look on Ioniq 6 (streamliner) and also Ioniq 5 the crossover. But there are some tweaks done to make the design look better and somewhat more modern.
If you are familiar with the entire layout and model, you’d known that the exterior door moldings and handles were removed so there would be a cleaner and more simplified look. There is also the reimagined window garnish in chrome and black, along with a bit wider spoke units instead of the bone stock wheels, and also the valance panel (having two exhaust outlets) for the rear bumper. For the finishing touch, the car has a (guise of) trunk spoiler with lid integrated model.
Such a design gets a lot of appraisal and feedbacks. A lot of people have stated that the new concept looks like a modern ride, but still retaining an Impala classic styling from the era. In short, the entire design and style would be just impressive and good looking.
Modern Cues
The concept would be twinned with the (fourth gen) Caprice. If it ever makes it into production, the Impala would be the 7th gen model. The concept image would be joined with the ‘9C1 police package’ Caprice, joined at its hip. However, the ominous looking party piece of the sedan would be the C4’s small block of LT1.
It would be connected exclusively to the auto 4L60-E, joined together for the rear end with 3.08 gearing and also the limited slip diff. The V8 unit with 5.7 liter capacity would be generating 260 hp and 447 Nm of torque. Such figures may not be ‘modernly’ impressive according to the current standard of four cylinder turbo units, but the SS is still considered promising.
