The 2025 Chevy Equinox would be designed and coming as a gas powered unit instead of an electric type. Not all manufacturers are focusing on making the electric cars these days. They believe that there are still buyers who want to get their hands on the regular combustion power unit. This is one of the reasons why they create the ‘regular’ Equinox although they are also focusing on developing the electric type.
This next gen SUV would be coming as a combustion powered type and it should be coming to the market in 2024, designed as the 2025 model year. There have been several spy shots out there, offering what might be designed as the next powerful SUV model.
About the Equinox Nameplate
The company has been quite busy developing their future lines, and Equinox is included in one of them. It’s quite interesting that the upcoming 2025 Equinox (with its fuel burning system) would be different from the EV version that was released back then in 2022. The body itself would be coming with similar (and somewhat familiar) characteristics of Equinox with its beltline and window shape. However, the design is somewhat beefier than the later version, and it has boxy proportion.
Design and Style
The overall look would be noticeable quite significantly from the D-pillar, where you can see the side glass being stretched to the roof line with frames that are almost vertical in design. This design is similar to the Equinox EV. But the current one incorporates angled glass in order to deliver sleeker appearance.
The new design is still covered with camo, not clearly showing the exact style and look of the vehicle. The front angle would also come with the upright face. The overall look is not really visible up through the camo. Although the new Equinox would be different from the EV styling, you have to admit that it gets a lot of EV influence, especially with the (thin) daytime running lights being located on the top area.
It would be coming with big grille that is designed to feed off the gas engine – which is completely different from the EV model. The primary headlights could be easily seen on the grille (on either side of it). when you take a look at the image and you see the placeholder taillights located on the rear side, it confirms that this testing ride is not ready yet for production.
It’s pretty clear that Chevy is now following the recent trend with SUV designs that are more rugged and somewhat boxier. The overall design is similar to the new Subaru Forester and also Honda Pilot. Both of them debuted within the last 18 months. Because of this arrangement, there is enough space for the sleeker and slimmer Equinox EV within the lineup. If the company wants to create a family hauler that focuses on street performance, the new Equinox would be the perfect option.
Powertrain and Performance
What about the powertrain of the 2025 Chevy Equinox? There hasn’t been any official confirmation about the engine options or even about the powertrain layout. But if you take a look at the current model as inspiration, it’s running on four cylinder turbocharged unit with 1.5 liter capacity, generating 175 hp, paired up with either all wheel or front wheel driving system. There is a possibility of hybrid unit too.
The current Equinox is within the third gen, released in 2016. There was a mid cycle refresh in 2021 and also 2023 models. The upcoming model is expected to be the fourth gen prototype which should be revealed in around 2023, designed as the 2025 model.
