The current update about 2024 Chevrolet Corvette is that the company is preparing the racing-type vehicle for the 2024 racing season. Although they are usually focusing on developing the street legal versions of sports vehicle, this GT3.R Z06 is especially designed for the racing track only. Up until now, there hasn’t been any confirmation about the mass production vehicles, like the Stringray, but considering that they have launched the 2022 model, they may be preparing the future model right now.
About the Z06 GTR.3 Model
As it was mentioned before, this 2024 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is especially designed as a race car. According to the company, they designed this vehicle on purpose to be prepared for the racing season in 2024, focusing on the GT3 category for competition. Corvette has its own long standing lines of vehicles as the champions in the race industry. It’s only logical if they are getting ready for the upcoming challenge. The GT3.R Z06 would be the only race vehicle (track only type) that would be the first ever model offered by Chevy for both amateur and professional teams. It packs up a lot of hidden performance and quality that the vehicle has a promising future as a race ride.
Design and Construction
If you take a look at the design, it may seem familiar. It’s because the entire design (and construction) is based on Corvette Z06, which is basically street friendly. It also means that the car will also be running on the same 5.5 liter unit. However, this model won’t be designed as a street legal ride. This vehicle would be modified and tweaked with racing specific equipments and technologies. It would also comply with the regulations from FIA so it can compete within multiple events and series, including going through the competition setting.
The History
The vehicle has undergone a long year of history, especially in 1999 with the introduction of CR.5. since then, the company has developed many Corvette models and variants, and managed to create a successful name within the global GT sports racing events, including the GTLM/GTE Pro, GT2, and GT1 categories. And now, the company is focusing on the GT3 category, designing this future model to dominate it; continuing the legacy.
This new race ride would be coming with mid engine architecture. The powertrain would be punchy and promising, able to deliver 500 hp to 600 hp, thanks to the LT6 flat plane crank DOHC unit with 5.5 liter which is inspired from the Z06. When paired up with manual 6 speed transmission, it is able to deliver satisfying performance.
To improve aerodynamics, the car has a lightweight body work from carbon, with wind tunnel system. It also comes with double wishbone motorsport specific system, which is meant to extract performance and power from the lower (ride) heights.
