Will there ever be 2025 Ford Edge manufactured and released to the public? The future of the Edge doesn’t seem solidly scheduled well, especially with the company has different plans and they constantly change their plans (and schedules) to accommodate everything. One day they decided to cut the production off, and the next day they had a change of heart and decided to keep it, after all. So, what can we expect from the new line? What will happen to it?
Ford and Their Edge’s Planning
In (June) 2020, the company decided that they are going to cancel their Ford Edge, especially related to their Oakville Assembly Plant, where both Edge and Lincoln Nautilus are being manufactured. And then, it seemed that the next updates confirmed the plan, especially after Unifor (Canadian Union) and Ford made an agreement concerning the company’s manufacturing plan. At that time, Ford agreed to retool the manufacturing plant so they can produce electric vehicles, which begins at around 2025. Afterwards, it seems that everything has been decided that the Edge will stop producing after the 2023 model is launched.
However, things seem to have changed now. There are updates stating that the company will still make the crossover. Some reliable sources have stated that the crossover will still be made to the beginning of 2024. That’s why people are wondering whether there is going to be the 2025 Ford Edge, considering that the company would electrify their lineups. If they still make 2025 Edge, it means that their plan to electrify the Edge will be possible, and they won’t have to stop the production.
The Company’s Roadmap
Based on the latest roadmap, the production of Edge will still be made at Oakville manufacturing plant until the 31st of January 2024. It would be the last time the crossover made there, and then they would stop the production to accommodate the new EV production. The company plans on making their Lincoln Aviator EV and Explorer EV at the exact same plant. The two models would be the only models being manufactured there.
But then again, the electric production will take place in 2025, after the plant is being retooled in 2024. As it was mentioned before, it’s possible that Ford sees the opportunity to still make the Edge, continuing it to the 2025 model. But even if the company decides that they are going to stop making the Edge for North American market, they will still make it for other markets. In case you don’t know it, the Edge is gaining popularity in China. If Ford is smart enough to see the promising profit, they should continue making the Edge and provide it for other global markets.
Spotted Prototypes
The new Edge is said to be spotted undergoing a testing stage. But as the suspected rumor, the new Edge seems to have new development especially designed for Chinese market. Because of this, there has been rumors that Edge may not be available in the North American market, but it would be available for the Chinese area.
Based on the spy shot pictures, the sculpted design seems similar to the midsize sedan Mondeo replacing Fusion (also in Chinese market) last year. This Edge is said to already come up at China Ministry of Industry and Information Technology website, showing a bigger midsize ride. When compared to the US Edge, the Chinese Edge seems to be 8 inches longer.
