The Redesigned Plan
As it was mentioned before, the 2024 Jeep Cherokee would be experiencing redesigned project. The first ever change would be about the platform. If the upcoming Cherokee development goes as planned, it would be the first product using the STLA Large new architecture. This may not be a totally new platform, but it’s basically a Giorgio platform that has been modified, which has been used in Alfa Romeo Stelvio (and also Giulia) and also the new Grand Cherokee.
Unlike the Giorgio platform with its rear wheel driving system, this one would come as the front wheel driving system. Jeep believes, however, that this platform would provide a greater advantage to the new version of Cherokee. Not only it would be lighter, but it would also have improved performance and also handling.
Powertrain and Performance
There is no official confirmation about the powertrain, but we can always see the current model for comparison. The current Cherokee runs on 2 powertrain options, one of which would be possibly dropped when the new future is available. The main option would be the V6 unit of 3.2 liter capacity, delivering 271 hp. There is also a possibility of turbo four unit with 2.0 liter capacity, currently delivering 270 hp and 295 Nm of torque. For the future version, this unit may have a slightly higher output then the current one.
Hopefully, the transmission would also change. The current one runs on 9 speed transmission, which is unfortunately, not impressive. But we don’t know the exact arrangement. What about electrification? It’s possible, especially with plug in hybrid option. After the plug in hybrid is available, the all electric version would soon be available.
Price and Release Date
Again, the company hasn’t provided the detailed information about their upcoming Cherokee production. But many have predicted that the new model would be available soon enough, especially within the second half of 2023. The current Cherokee would start from around $30,000. If there would be significant changes and improvements, the price range may have change.
