The future of 2025 Mazda CX5 is not clear enough, considering that the company has just rolled the 2023 model. Moreover, its ‘future’is almost similar to the CX50, which is basically a new model that the company has focused o developing.
Mazda is said to manufacture another two (new) midsize SUV on a separate occasion, besides the CX5, which would make it difficult for them to keep the CX5 is they are going to make another midsize models. However, the CX5 itself has got mild facelift, which highly possibly suggest that it will stay around for at least several years further.
The Future of Mazda CX50 vs CX5
According to Mitsuru Wakiie, the current manager of the program, the company hasn’t made their mind about the future of the CX5. They aren’t even sure whether the vehicle would make it into third gen because of the new midsize models. However, the SUV has received a mild facelift, which means that you can still find the model for sale for the next few years ahead. But they themselves aren’t really sure whether they are going to introduce any new gen of CX5 (let alone to provide information about the development of the 2025 Mazda CX50), so they can’t really say a lot about it.
As it was mentioned before, it’s difficult to pinpoint the future of both the 2025 Mazda CX5 and also CX50. The CX5 is considered less ‘beneficial’ and less promising when compared to the new CX50 and CX60. To complicate things further, the company has just released the CX50 for the 2023 model year, which means that they have just tweaked the model, so there is a slim chance that they haven’t figured out what they are going to do with the upcoming 2025 model.
It’s also difficult to ‘beat’ down the popularity of the CX5. Being a worthy and solid competitor against Kia Sportage and Toyota RAV4, there are some good reasons why the midsize SUV remains one of the most favorable options. Not only it’s comfy to ride, but it’s also whimsical and fun to control. The interior cabin is also well made and attractive, with somewhat plush vibe. It’s just perfect as an urban ride.
The New Midsize Models
Since last year, Mazda has started making other two models of midsize SUVs: the CX50 and CX60. Both of the models are developed together although they would be released on different target market. The CX50 would be manufactured in both China and North America. It would be coming with front or all wheel driving system, sharing platform with the CX30. The dimension would be 4719mm in length and 1920 mm in width. It would also come in 2814 mm in wheelbase.
The CX60, on the other hand, would be constructed in Japan, but with target market of European market. It would be narrower but longer, with 4740 mm in length and 1890 mm in width. The wheelbase is longer, with 2870 mm in size with rear or all wheel driving system.
What about the original CX5? The CX5 would be generally smaller, with only 4550 mm in length, 1840 mm in width, and 2700 mm of wheelbase. Although it’s included in the mainstream midsize SUV category, the CX5 is relatively the smallest one when compared to the other two newer models.
The Global Development
The reason why CX5 remains in the line-up is because it is one of the company’s biggest seller models, especially in 2022. In 2022 alone, Mazda is able to sell a total of 1,116,107 units globally, and the CX5 was sold up to 365,135 units. It means that the CX5 alone managed to contribute to around third revenue of the company. Because the future of 2025 Mazda CX5 isn’t cleared out, and especially since the 2023 has just rolled out, we can only wait for the company’s official update.
