After the 2024 Lincoln Nautilus design was leaked in November 2022, a lot of people have been hopeful and expectant of the new crossover. There were rumors about the Nautilus stopped producing, but it turns out that the company would still be making the Nautilus, but they are going to offer it in Chinese car market. The Nautilus and the Ford Edge won’t be offered in the US market, but they are still offered in other (global) markets. So, if you are in love with this model, don’t worry. You can still expect the 2024 model which would be available soon enough.
The Updated Plan
Both of these crossovers would be inspired from other vehicle’s designs. The Edge would borrow cues from Ford Evos, while the Nautilus would be heavily inspired from the new (and soon upcoming) Lincoln Star concept. There have been several spyshot pictures available, so we can have clearer ideas of what to expect.
Lincoln Nautilus Images
The new gen 2024 Lincoln Nautilus was spotted in Michigan (at first) and then in Europe. All of the photos are showing the prototype in heavily covered camo, so it would be difficult to see how the new crossover would look like. However, from the front fascia design, it seems that the new Nautilus would have similar look as Lincoln Zephyr.
It also means that there would likely be (thinner) headlamps with wider grille with diamond shape pattern. The wheel design looks different and unique. Even the handles (which are door mounted type) look different and visibly easy to see. The handles seems to be inspired by Lincoln Continental. It’s not really surprising that the crossover is constructed with Ford C2 platform.
Lincoln Star Concept
The company wants to have at least 3 EVs before 2025 and they want to electrify all the lineup by 2030. They may have prepared the Nautilus for such a plan, but to change Nautilus to an EV would be a premature step. If you see the Lincoln Star concept, it seems that the company wants to target the lower and longer outcome. We should see what would be their new development soon.
Powertrain and Performance
There is no information about the powertrain of this new Nautilus. Considering that it would be offered in Chinese market, there is a possibility that it would be running on some specs of US Nautilus. The current model is running on gas unit with 2.0 liter capacity, delivering 250 hp and 280 Nm of torque. There is another optional pick with V6 unit of 2.7 liter capacity, able to generate 335 hp and 380 Nm of torque.
However, many sources say that both of these units are quite unlikely for the Chinese Nautilus. There is always a possibility that the global Nautilus would be offered with less power than those in the US. There is a possibility of hybrid power, but again, all electric Nautilus still takes 3 to 4 years to complete.
Price and Release Date
The current Nautilus model is still available (and still on sale) in America. However, big chances that the current Nautilus would be the last one ever manufactured. It’s a good thing that the car manufacturer still decided to keep the nameplate although in other parts of the globe, including in China.
If everything goes as planned, sales would take place in 2023; preferably after the middle of the year. They haven’t officially revealed the price as well as the exact launch date. They would provide further information and details in several months, and it would include the price as well as the detailed engine lineup of 2024 Lincoln Nautilus.
