2024 Lexus RX Release Date & Price

2024 Lexus RX – Our go-to luxury midsize crossover for getting from point A to point B in comfort without spending an absolute fortune has long been the 2024 Lexus RX. The 2024 model of the RX replaces the previous generation, which had some drawbacks including a grating infotainment system, a lack of driver engagement, poor handling qualities, and a thirsty V6 engine if you didn’t go hybrid. However, the list of advantages outweighed the disadvantages for us and a particular comfort-oriented buyer. By investing more money in a crossover for a more comfortable ride, a better interior, and more standard features, you would run afoul of the law of diminishing returns.

Lexus examined the RX’s shortcomings for 2024 and then completely redesigned it. It is built on a brand-new chassis (TNGA-K), which it also shares with the Lexus ES and NX. A new design, an updated infotainment system, and a 2.4-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine replace the base V6. The RX 350 and its accompanying trims are at the bottom of the lineup, followed by the hybrid RX 350h and the 366-horsepower RX 500h F Sport Performance model. At the US press event, we got behind the wheel to test how the new model performs.

The Form

If you could overlook the grille, the exterior appearance of the previous model 2024 Lexus RX was somewhat plain. Its resemblance to the Toyota Highlander was obvious from its shape, which was at best old-Toyota-like. With a more sedan-like profile and a seamless grille that looks integrated into the bodywork rather than tacked on as an afterthought, the Lexus RX represents a significant improvement. The RX now has more assured lines and shape, and the light clusters are angular and complementary to the overall design. The total length is the same as the previous model, but the wheelbase is larger, which improves comfort and stability. It has a tiny bit more width, but looks more planted because of the belt line’s appearance to be higher, the lower center of gravity, and the optical illusion of the headlights wrapping around the sides of the body.

With the introduction of Copper Crest, a new paint from Lexus that, despite being difficult to photograph in the strong midday summer light of California, has upped its game in terms of appearance, The ten-color palette includes favorite in Nori Green Pearl in addition to other notable hues like Matador Red Mica, Grecian Water (blue), and Ultra White.

Performance

The thirsty normally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 is being replaced by a 2.4-liter turbocharged inline-four with an eight-speed automatic, which is the biggest modification to the RX’s drivetrain. The new RX launches off the line effortlessly thanks to the new engine’s 275 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque, which is a few horsepower less than the V6 but with more available torque. With a combined fuel efficiency of 25 mpg, it uses less fuel, but the turbo-four requires premium fuel, which is a drawback.

The 2024 Lexus RX 350h in the hybrid series only has 246 horsepower, but thanks to a CVT, it gets a projected 36 mpg on the highway. The top-of-the-line RX 500h F Sport combines hybrid efficiency and performance in one vehicle, foregoing the CVT in favor of a six-speed automatic transmission, and offers a significant increase in horsepower to 366 and a combined torque of 406 lb-ft but a decrease in mileage to 27 mpg.

Although we don’t yet know the price, we are optimistic considering that the RX won’t be purchased in large numbers for its ability to carve corners. The 350 will, quite appropriately, account for the majority of sales of the new model. It is a confident and smooth drivetrain when paired with the eight-speed automatic that has enough torque and refinement to never strain.

In Motion

All three 2024 Lexus RX variants we drove throughout the day shared a similar trait. The RX is a comfy cruiser with a smooth, quiet ride that makes it easy to feel like you’re moving at 60 mph when you’re actually moving at 80. Although the spring rate is precisely adjusted, the suspension is firmly damped to handle rough roads and bumps. Adding adaptive suspension makes it even better, but it’s only available on the F Sport Handling and F Sport Performance models, which seems like a squandered opportunity. Lexus’s Dynamic Rear Steering, which enhances high-speed stability and low-speed maneuverability, is also available on F Sport models.

We didn’t think it was necessary to have a sportier version, even though the F Sport is the performance variant. Although it rides well, accelerates quickly, and bends well, it seems to misunderstand the idea of the RX. We would continue to drive the 350h and appreciate its blend of first-rate comfort and fuel efficiency. Perhaps it’s time Lexus gave this model line a luxury label in addition to a performance badge, as it does with several other model lines.

Interior

Nothing has changed from the previous generation RX’s high standard for interior comfort.Premium materials are used throughout the cabin, and the seats are cozy. Even if the numbers are identical to those of the previous models, there is more usable space for everyone, especially those in the back. If you need to transport more than five people, you should look elsewhere or perhaps at a larger Lexus LX because this model lacks a third row.

The new touchscreen, voice-activated infotainment system, and removal of the obnoxious trackpad interface that plagued Lexus for years are what particularly make us happy. It sports a 14-inch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard features, as well as Apple Music and Amazon Music integration. The infotainment system can be operated by voice commands in addition to touch, and this includes the cloud-based navigation system with Google places of interest (POI). Both SiriusXM and a Wi-Fi Connect hotspot are accessible through AT&T service.

Lexus RX Pricing and Competition

We have no way of knowing the cost of the 2024 Lexus RX. Although Lexus has not provided any pricing information, the company is notorious for undercutting its top competitors.

Pricing for the model from the previous generation ranged from $45,920 to $56,150. Compared to the Mercedes-Benz GLE ($56,150 to $79,800) and BMW X5, which cost between $60,600 and $82,800, there is a significant price differential.

Additionally, Lexus has a trick up its sleeve. Comparatively speaking to the standard equipment offered by German manufacturers, Lexus’ various trims are generally well-equipped.

Because Acura adheres to the same philosophy when it comes to basic equipment, the MDX is a bigger issue. And with prices starting at $48,000, it is only slightly more expensive than the existing RX.

The price will probably go up a little, but we doubt Lexus will want to raise the RX to the level of its direct German rivals and lose one of its key selling qualities.
