2024 Hyundai Kona: Newer Look with Similar Powertrain

Although the new 2024 Hyundai Kona looks aggressive and tough, it’s not designed as an offroader. For the 2024 model, the Kona would definitely look boxy and more rugged, keep in mind that it’s basically a ‘soft roader’, which means that it’s meant for urban jungle instead of the muddy rough offroad terrain. For this new gen, it would be running on four cylinder gas unit. There would be a hybrid model offered for the global markets, but it’s unclear whether it would make it into North American market. There is also a possibility of all electric Kona, but it hasn’t been talked about in details.

The Updated New Kona

A lot of people say that the new Kona would embrace a more futuristic style, and such a style would even reach the interior cabin. Expect two touchscreen displays (possibly having the same size of 12.3 inch) on the dash.

Design and Layout

The upcoming 2024 Hyundai Kona would be larger than the previous models. The wheelbase is 2.3 inch longer and it also offers 5.7 inch longer in the overall length. The extra length would improve the cargo space as well as the rear seat room. There have been several images showing off the interior cabin with dual display screens, which are assumed offered in the higher trim level.

Although the new Kona looks completely different, it won’t offer anything revolutionary in terms of power. The powertrain would be the carryover from the current model. There is no detail about the hybrid power or whether it’s going to be offered in North America.

Trim Levels and Price

It’s most likely that there would be 7 trim levels being offered for this 2024 model lineup. The base trim level would be the SE with estimated price of $24,000. The next one would be the SEL with a tag of $26,000. Another higher option would be the Blue Hybrid ($27,000) and N Line ($29,000), followed by SEL hybrid with the tag of $30,000. The Limited would be coming next with a tag of $32,000 and the Limited Hybrid would be the highest trim level with also the highest price of $33,000.

Keep in mind that these aren’t the official lineup of the Kona because Hyundai hasn’t made any official release about their offered trim levels and the prices. We should know for sure once the information is made available.

Powertrain and Performance

Kona would still be coming with two options of four cylinder units, which are basically also offered in the previous models. The entry level would be running on the 2.0 liter unit (which can generate 147 hp) while the four cylinder turbocharged unit with 1.6 liter capacity is also offered as an optional pick. Hyundai has been planning a hybrid powertrain and it’s definitely offered in the global markets. The company hasn’t decided whether they are going to offer hybrid for American market.

The Interior Cabin

The cabin in the current Kona is generously spacious. The size is the same as a hatchback vehicle, so many are hopeful that Hyundai would maintain this aspect. You can expect more space for the cargo, but it won’t be as spacious as the Chevrolet Suburban. In terms of interior design, it’s simple and straightforward. It would be coming with leather upholstery, column mounted shifter, and (rich looking) ambient lighting.

Since the cabin would get significant improvement, it’s safe to expect better features and techs too. Besides the dual screens dominating the dashboard, we can expect the wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay too. Hopefully, they would be offered as the standard feature. We should know more about the 2024 Hyundai Kona before the launch date, which will take place by the end of 2023.
